Of humble beginnings

Ever since I started working at M's, I've always had the impression that the families of these kids MUST be from affluent and pretty well-to-do backgrounds. Hence, their parents would presumably be some visionary professional or office personnel to want to put their children in an English-speaking environment to pick up the language.

My first encounter of meeting a parent outside of school was at a bakery I wanted to part-time at. A helper who emerged from the kitchen looked vaguely familiar, and she reminded me in limited English that she was a student's mum. When I was whiling my time away one afternoon at Joyfull, I caught sight of another student's mum in uniform helping in the kitchen. I did not have chance to acknowledge her acquaintance this time as she probably knocked off before I could say hi.

やっぱり(afterall) I discover that I have certain perceptions and assumptions that passes the standards of Man all the time: that wisdom and foresight is associated with affluence and wealth. I have definitely learnt a humble lesson...
