The relentless rain since last week should have been a good premonition for us. Even though the weekend was surprisingly sunny. Nevertheless the rain has not ceased since. And we begin to learn that we should expect Typhoon Melor tonight and tomorrow.
As I made my way to school today, I had the strongest gut feel that school will be cancelled tomorrow. True to a woman's instinct, the first news I received when I entered the pantry corresponded to it. Immediately my thoughts were filled with the limitless potential of stuff I can do with the entire free day tomorrow. Hehe.
I had experienced a typhoon ever in one-of-those-days in Shanghai. And I don't remember to having prep for its coming. Hence I did not think much of this typhoon. This morning, the Spouse closed all the shutters and curtains 'in case the glass breaks'; when he got home just now, he started observing the neighbours and began bringing in stuff from the balcony. The preparedness of someone who has never gone through a natural disaster is quite, beyond me.
In fact, since we got to Kochi, the Spouse has been stocking up on the necessities in the event of a natural disaster, especially since we ARE actually in anticipation of a major Nankai earthquake in this region. And I have been happily oblivious to all the disaster-awareness efforts. Having grown up in natural disaster-free Singapore, it is really not in the system to gear my mind up for earthquakes and typhoons. Though I'd really think it an adventure to go through an earthquake, there is that occasional fear in the gut that strikes me. What should I do if I'm home alone? How do I contact the Spouse? Where do I go to get help?
This typhoon is a timely reminder that I ought to find out all these details. Soon. Hopefully before the earthquake strikes.
