Was reading WJ's blog and came across his question on the correlation between achievement and happiness.
I thought the correlation between achievements and happiness is that of WHAT you achieve. You can miss the old life, but if you make a choice to give up living it, you made the choice to give up THAT happiness you once knew. There's no right or wrong, but rather what sort of achievements in life we choose to hanker after. I suppose a choice to pursue simplicity and contentment is no less an achievement than climbing ladders or accumulating wealth.
Viewed in the right context, leaving behind the old life and all the pleasures that came with it can be desirable too. When God called Abram to leave his father's house at Ur and go to Canaan, he took Terah his father along, and traveled only to Haran, the last major outpost of civilization along the trade routes. Abram had travelled 700 miles, but he stopped as he approached the final and most difficult leg of his journey.
Many a child of God leaves Ur (the old life) to seek the Promised Land (the committed life), but is sidetracked by the comforts and pleasures of Haran (the comforts of the uncommitted life). We are fearful of the hardships and sacrifices of the journey to total surrender.
But we always have a choice, and WE make the choice. That's why God gave us free will. Just that there are consequences to every choice made. If you make a choice that is in His will, even if there are consequences to be bore, He will bear them for us. The faith of God will not lead you to where the grace of God cannot keep you.
is he a believer?
ReplyDeletei have never consider the question of happiness since i know Him.. just no need to.. as compared to the past life when i always look for the meaning of life and thus the pursuit of Happyness. lolz.
indeed, after i know Him, there is no need to question abt happiness. cos i think it is automatically one hor? to be joyful. and at peace.
realise there are alot of sacrifices to make when we serve Him, especially when it comes to choose Him first or the world first. hor?
