As I read the opening description of this camp, there's a jumbled-up rojak of a whole chunk of pride + a lost sense of familiarity + a tinge of regret acquainted with time past.
I vividly remember the days when the first pioneers of us fought to continue the camp; taking over the helm without prior 'training'; curbing the angst and pride of our youth to work with each other despite the differences. The four of us came together to say, we want it, and we kept it. Even the name of the Camp 'Mumbo' came from our time!
Today, there's an immense pride in the success of the continuation of the leadership and organisation of the camp. The sense of familiarity may be lost as batches after batches of the younger generation shapes the way the camp is now run, but the tinge of regret is not of holding back, rather, it comes naturally with all good memories of a certain bygone.
From a camper, to an instructor, to being the Camp Commandant, and eventually just as a returning 'Advisor'. There had been moments in time when there were struggles to let go as time brings me to another stage of life. There were also those thoughts that wanted to keep up with the changes and the younger ones in the group. Eventually, what is left is merely fatigue from playing catch up and dedicating time to 'mere' fun and laughter of a younger nature.
As the author of the blog aptly puts, and which I have often prescribed it in my own words, Camp Mumbo has certainly mould me to be who I am today. I thank God for this memory and experience, and I am sure many of my 'comrades' share the same sentiments. Yeah, Beng?
Cheers to many good years ahead of Camp Mumbo.
yeah surely!
