Just read Song's blog on Jesus's compassion towards the people first, healing all who came. Provided what they did not ask for. Supplied their sustenance in abundance. Focused on the multitude. In the immediate aftermath of John the Baptist's death.
The ability to reach out, to minister, even in pain. Setting aside your own emotions and struggles to focus on another's first. Wow. How tough.
There are 2 points I want to bring out here:
1) I remember watching Patch Adams and his philosophy in life. To focus on others' pain and needs so as to divert away the attention on your own's. You can potentially label him an escapist, or a self-sacrificial chap.
It's really killing 2 birds with 1 stone.
2) My hair stood and my thoughts froze at reading about Jesus's emotions. It was a mix of feeling His pain, and realising He's not 'immune' to everything that happens in life.
Jesus loses a loved one, and He CAN hurt.
