27 December 2006 - Midweek 喝茶 Session with a Senior

I had the whole of 6.5 working days to wonder about the culture of the organisation, and I think I probably learnt it in a matter of 1.5 hrs.

A senior shared everything he could think of, ranging from management to colleagues to strategising (or politicking) to 'help' me fit into this place. One to one.

What a revelation.

When he was done with his piece and asked if I had any questions for him: "What about the work?"

What he shared apparently covers 90% of survivability. "The challenge is not in the work, it's in everything aside from the work."

WAH.

Frankly, I really dun haf much survival skills to talk about. I never had to wrestle my way around very much in my employment history, hence the lack of EQ. Yet I dun feel intimidated by what this senior shared.

Whatever it is, this is just another place to do planting. No matter how mean or unfriendly or aloof people are, if the going gets really tough, complain/bitch/tear/sob. At the peak of the threshold, quit lo. Right?

As the senior went on sharing with me all the can-dos, should-dos, must-dos, oughta-dos, I found myself drifting into prayers with the Lord. Aiya good Lord, no matter what he says, I always have You to guide, to protect and to give me grace and wisdom.

Thank you Father, for all that was told to me, for all that I will have to learn to deal with, and for all that will come to pass.

"I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears" Psalms 34:4
